If you are hosting a personal site, then make sure that your page doesn’t have unnecessary large files. Remember that every time a particular page is requested, the same amount of files is forced over the internet. So for example, if your page is 100 KB-worth, then 100 KB of your bandwidth is used. Besides, if your site is designed to have pages go back to one particular menu page to access other links, large files can make your broses crash. Even if the page is already in the cache of the browser, it is till rebuilt every time that particular page is being accessed.
Use video and audio only when necessary. Images can be resized or save in a less but still acceptable resolution. Text can also be split to several pages. In this case, light is right.

A domain name can make or break your website. So before typing in anything on your form, be sure to have considered the following first:
Be sure that the topic of your site shows in the name. Put keywords there. So for example, if your site is about wine tasting, then it should have “wine” and “taste” in it. Think of at least three possible names and write them on paper. Keep the titles short but memorable. We want people to remember the site and not have them scratch the back of their heads remembering it. Don’t forget to check the availability of each name.

Although the probability of coming up with original material in the web is a little tough, what with the continuous appearance of hundreds if not thousands of niche blogs and websites out there, nothing beats original content. Original and quality content will attract a lot of traffic to a particular website, and more so if the content is continually updated. By maintaining quality and consistency of your posts, visitors can not help but return. It won’t be long before the number of visitors will grow.

The two are some of the most prominent open-source Content management Systems (CMS) around and many argue on which one is better when it comes to overall performance. Drupal has garnered a lot of the web development market with many years of experience in the industry. Joomla has a somewhat newer fan base having less but overall they have a gap that is so little to differentiate. The major differences lie in the way Drupal is very easily scalable for dynamic organizations who may have frequent need for expansion. It allows better distribution but while it leads more in the enterprise arena, Joomla is easier to handle for non-geeks or people with less experience in web development. Content Management Systems though quite different due to enterprise applications is somewhat similar to mashables in the social internet, allowing content management that results in analytical information that can be used to analyze and determine the effectivity of the overall system. Autonomy Interwoven, one of the CMS companies plying the net announced a seemingly mashable type content management system that includes active customer listening in terms of interactions that not only listens to the CMS but to other channels such as the social web/media, email and web content (from other sources). Their multi-channel optimization system allows customers to gauge the effectivity of their venture into the CMS market making prompt adjustments to content as necessary and other social influences that may be part of the overall web experience. There are a number of ways to license any sort of work you publish on the net.

One is Creative Commons, which is only recommended for written content, photographs, and graphic work. A number of licenses are available at the website, each covering specific means an author prefers his or her work to be used by others if ever.
Another is the Free Software Foundation, which advocates open source software. Along with the Open Source Initiative, they both provide free licenses which are specifically made to protect source code and software from abuse and misuse.
So protect your work now and get licensing for the fruits of your hard work!
These licenses are also recognized legally, so may opt to enforce them in an actual court of law if you so desire.

Okay. So you might be the kind of person who has diverse interests. I can understand since I’m one myself. And I do understand how it is when temptation to just mesh all of your hobbies and interests in one site comes along. It does save resources than putting up five different sites for each of your five interests. But the thing is you have to stick to one theme. If your site is about entertainment, then please do not go astray that particular path. Do not have multi-themed pages in one site about pets, housekeeping, rock music, etc. etc.
